About the Šid / Tovarnik crossing
The Šid / Tovarnik crossing connects the Serbian town of Šid, in western Srem (Vojvodina), with the Croatian village of Tovarnik in Vukovar-Srijem county. On the Croatian side the D46 state road continues toward Vinkovci and Đakovo, with Vukovar not far to the north; the crossing lies only a few kilometres off the A3/E70 Belgrade–Zagreb motorway. The main Belgrade–Zagreb railway line also crosses the border here.
Croatia has been in Schengen since 2023, so this is an external Schengen border with full passport and customs checks. The crossing is open 24/7 to cars, buses and trucks alike, and its real value is as the quieter, parallel alternative to the huge Batrovci / Bajakovo motorway crossing nearby: when the motorway backs up on summer weekends, many drivers detour through Šid and Tovarnik instead. Freight traffic is significant here too, though queues are usually shorter than on the motorway.
Practical tips
- Full passport and customs control applies in both directions — this is not an EU-internal border.
- Coming from the A3/E70, the detour via Šid or Tovarnik is short — a useful escape route when Batrovci / Bajakovo is jammed.
- Compare both crossings before choosing: the heatmap above shows this one's quietest hours.
How to read this page
Each square is one day and hour. Green is a short wait (30 min or less), yellow is medium (up to 90), red is long. Grey squares have no reports yet. The big number is the usual wait in minutes; the small number is how many reports it is based on. Faded squares have very few reports, so treat them with caution.
We show two numbers. The usual wait (‘Typically’) is the middle of what people report — a normal day. The busy-day number (‘up to’) is how bad it can get. If you can’t be late, plan for the busy-day number.
The 2-hour window when waits are usually shortest. Arrive near its start for the best chance of a quick crossing. The per-day cards show the same for each weekday.
Reports come in through the day. The Last reporting card at the top shows the latest one. Recent reports count a little more than old ones, and anything based on very few reports is faded — treat it with caution.
Wait times for Croatia → Serbia and the opposite direction are tracked separately and often differ significantly. Use the link at the top of the page to switch to the reverse crossing.
Public holidays, seasonal traffic, and road works can shift wait times well outside historical norms. These statistics reflect past patterns — always check current conditions before you travel.
