About the Nădlac II / Csanádpalota crossing
Nădlac II / Csanádpalota is the motorway crossing between Romania and Hungary: here Romania's A1 from Arad and Bucharest flows straight into Hungary's M43 toward Makó, Szeged and Budapest, on the E68 axis. Opened in 2015, it quickly became the busiest point on the whole Romanian–Hungarian frontier and the main gateway for Romanian cars and freight heading to Western Europe. The town of Nădlac and the older Nădlac I / Nagylak crossing on the parallel DN7 road lie just to the south.
Since 1 January 2025 Romania has been a full Schengen member, so this is now an internal Schengen border: the systematic passport and customs checks are gone and traffic normally rolls through the former control plaza without stopping. Random police checks can still occur, and the sheer volume of trucks and holiday traffic — especially when the Romanian diaspora travels in summer and around Christmas and Easter — can still slow things down at peak moments.
Practical tips
- Carry your ID or passport anyway — spot checks by Romanian or Hungarian police are possible on either side.
- Sort your vignettes before the border: a Romanian rovinietă for the A1 and a Hungarian e-vignette for the M43.
- Even without border control, peaks happen — the heatmap above shows when traffic here is at its lightest.

The big number is the usual wait in minutes; the small number is how many reports it is based on. Faded squares have very few reports, so treat them with caution.
We show two numbers. The usual wait (‘Typically’) is the middle of what people report — a normal day. The busy-day number (‘up to’) is how bad it can get. If you can’t be late, plan for the busy-day number.
The 2-hour window when waits are usually shortest. Arrive near its start for the best chance of a quick crossing. The per-day cards show the same for each weekday.
Reports come in through the day. The Last reporting card at the top shows the latest one. Recent reports count a little more than old ones, and anything based on very few reports is faded — treat it with caution.
Wait times for Romania → Hungary and the opposite direction are tracked separately and often differ significantly. Use the link at the top of the page to switch to the reverse crossing.
Public holidays, seasonal traffic, and road works can shift wait times well outside historical norms. These statistics reflect past patterns — always check current conditions before you travel.
