About the Star Dojran / Doirani crossing
The Star Dorjan–Doriani crossing is a smaller road border between North Macedonia and Greece, set beside Lake Dojran in the southeast of the country. On the North Macedonian side it lies near the lakeside resort town of Star Dojran, while the Greek side connects to the village of Doirani in the Kilkis regional unit of Central Macedonia, with roads continuing toward Kilkis and Thessaloniki.
This is a modest, largely local and tourism-driven crossing rather than a major freight artery. Much of its traffic is seasonal: it picks up in the warmer months as holidaymakers move around Lake Dojran and travellers make shorter regional trips between North Macedonia and northern Greece. Passenger cars dominate, with far fewer trucks and buses than the main Bogorodica–Evzoni corridor to the west.
Being a secondary route, it is often calmer than the big crossings, but summer weekends and holidays around the lake can still bring noticeable queues. Small as it is, it remains an external Schengen border, so full passport control applies.
